The National Institute of Health estimates that overall costs of cancer in 2002 were around $171.6 billion. In the same year, there were 205,000 new cases of breast cancer (40,000 deaths) and 189,000 new cases of prostate cancer (30,200 deaths) in the United States.

One might believe that this is a global trend, but then one might be severely mistaken.
According to a report in the publication A Cancer Journal for Clinicians, called 'Global Cancer Statistics' there are only two types of cancers that are far more prevalent in Northern America, than any other region of the world.
Not suprisingly, they are prostate cancer and breast cancer.
(recall that between 1990 and 1995, 270 million pounds of toxic waste were spread on U.S. farmlands as fertilizer) http://www.pirg.org/

Do cigarettes cause cancer, or does the cadmium from fertilizer manufactured from industrial toxic waste and used on the tobacco plant cause the cancer?
Cadmium-Cancer Link
In a July 13, 2003 published study, scientists found that cadmium has the ability to mimic the female hormone estrogen. Estrogen, like most hormones, has a wide array of functions from biochemical process to the activation / de-activation of genes.
The scientists, from Georgetown University, went on to postulate that cadmium may be connected to a recent surge in early onset puberty in American girls, a rise in incidences of breast cancer, and possibly the rise in incidences of prostate cancer. (Google)
Last year, the National Institute of Environment Health Sciences officially listed steroidal estrogen used in estrogen replacement therapy (mimics estrogen) as a "known carcinogen" in its biennial report. (NIEHS)
Summary
The Maimonides Group believes in the causal relationship between heavy metals and certain diseases, not because of some abstract science, coincidental statistics or a leap of faith. There is hard and undeniable evidence supporting the case, including:
The neural damage caused by mercury is identical to the damage found in the victims of AD, following autopsies.
Based on the apparent abundance of toxic heavy metals in our environment, diet and bodies, we believe that the case for a relationship to diseases is strong.
If you have not yet, we invite you to visit the heavy metal toxins section. Learn your risk of exposure to mercury, cadmium and/or lead, and determine for yourself if there is a possible link between them and diseases like dementia and cancer.
If you recognize the connection and feel you may be at risk, then please visit the Detoxification Therapy page for important information on an all-natural and effective heavy metal elimination regimen.
